What was hair, makeup and clothing like in the 50's?

On friday at my school we're having fifties day and having a sock hop but the problem is i dont know what to wear!!!! What would a middle schooler wear in the fifties? What was hair, makeup and clothing like in the 50's?
Stly in the fifties emphasized curves. A- line dresses and skirts, high waisted pants. They wore red lipstick and black eyeliner. Hair was soft waves or loose curls. Shoes were mostly pumps. Hats were all the rage, especially pill box hats. What was hair, makeup and clothing like in the 50's?
Exactly the same as what is on Happy Days. Or 'American Graffiti.
Have you ever watched Happy Days? Big poodle skirts, sometimes with poodles stiched on with tight soft sweaters or short sleeve blouses to match. For a more formal affair, the big long poofy sleeveless dresses were in. For females, it was as though all the skirts had to have a lot of poof or an under skirt.

For men, the styles were not so defined other than they were conservative. one staple for a younger man and a girl that was going steady - the letterman jacket or the letterman sweater. If it looked like Mr. Rogers would wear it, chances are it was a style that derived from the 50's.

Almost forgot - conservative red lipstick was sometimes a staple. I might suggest that you might want to watch a classic Marilyn Monroe movie for inspiration of some different looks. Good luck!
